Toshiba MRI Breast Coil System
Sentinelle's breast imaging and biopsy system designed to work with Toshiba’s Titan and Vantage MRI scanners.
Often called a "coil", it's actually a system of several interchangeable coils that can be configured for various breast imaging and biopsy procedures. The interchangeability and configurability feature is Sentinelle's patented Variable Coil Geometry. It allows the coils to be positioned to suit almost every patient and can be moved medially and laterally, as well as posteriorly towards the axilla and chest wall improving image quality compared to other tabletop coils.
A coil is an antenna or array of antennas which transmits and receives the RF signals used to produce an MRI image. The simplest coil consists of a single loop of copper wire or foil, a few diodes and capacitors, and tuned to the right frequency.
Sentinelle was acquired by Hologic in 2010, which later sold Sentinelle's line of MRI coil products to Invivo Corporation, a division of Phillips, in 2014. Click here to visit Invivo's site.

Complete System
For high-quality imaging, the patient lies prone on the device with her breast(s) immobilized between the medial coil (under her sternum) and the lateral coils at the sides of her chest. Imaging can take over an hour so patient comfort is paramount, especially considering that movement compromises image quality. A lot of development went into padding to optimize comfort.
